Press Shop

Press Shop occupies a shallow storefront on Bleeker Street. The shop, which specialized in pressed sandwiches, takes cues from an old printing press (pun intended) with its linear assembly line layout and elements such as a large, scrolled paper wall menu and rolling perforated brass panels. The low ceiling under existing mechanical equipment along the windows is screened with backlit open slats made from stock wood crown moldings while black penny tile floors and millwork panels made from laminated recycled paper provide a durable, dramatic background to the warm crafted wood and brass elements that people touch and the neon sign. A custom long wood table has a central mobile phone holder acknowledging how strangers eat next to each other.
